The Department of Community Health Nursing, in collaboration with the NSS Unit of the college, organised a Dental Screening Programme at PHC Kuttoor and the community under its coverage on 28 July 2026. The programme was conducted to promote oral health awareness, encourage early detection of dental problems, and educate the community on preventive oral healthcare practices.

In the programme, dental examination and screening were done by the students, keeping primary focus on adolescents and their dental problems. Assessment of oral hygiene and identification of dental issues such as plaque accumulation, dental caries, gum diseases including gingivitis and periodontitis, and other oral conditions were done. Individual counselling on oral hygiene practices, including correct tooth-brushing techniques, flossing, and healthy dietary habits. Health education and guidance on regular dental check-ups were given and participants requiring further dental treatment were referred to appropriate healthcare facilities. Follow-up advice and referral information were given where necessary. The clients participated actively in the screening programme and it successfully raised awareness about the importance of oral health and preventive dental care among them. Participants benefited from early identification of dental problems and received appropriate guidance for further management. The health education sessions improved knowledge regarding oral hygiene practices and emphasised the importance of regular dental check-ups.
