World Environment Day along with Joyalukkas Team on 5th June 2025 at Joyalukkas, Thiruvalla with the theme “Putting an End to Plastic Pollution.” The celebration aimed to raise awareness among the public about the devastating effects of plastic waste on the environment and to promote sustainable, eco-friendly alternatives. The program commenced at 10:30 AM with a soulful prayer song sung by the nursing students, creating a serene and reflective start to the event. A warm welcome speech was delivered by Mr. Jerin N.J., who extended greetings to the dignitaries, guests, students, and the public gathered for the occasion. The event was formally inaugurated by the Chief Guest Rev. Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan, who delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the global crisis of plastic pollution and the importance of collective responsibility in mitigating its impact. This was followed by an insightful speech by Prof. Mathew Soney, HOD Community Health Nursing, Pushpagiri College of Nursing, who shared her views on reducing single-use plastics, embracing sustainable living, and how one can contribute to community awareness and advocacy for a cleaner environment. As part of the event, Joyalukkas presented a tree sapling to Pushpagiri College of Nursing as a symbol of environmental awareness and shared commitment to a greener future. This simple yet powerful gesture underscored the shared responsibility of businesses and educational institutions in addressing today’s pressing ecological issues. An awareness program was conducted by the nursing students which includes a flash mob that highlighted the environmental and health dangers of plastic waste, a skit which portrayed a real-life consequences of plastic overuse, health education was provided by the students on the impact of plastic pollution on human health, including its links to respiratory issues, endocrine disruption, and long-term ecosystem damage. Different AV aids were used to make the information accessible and relatable. A thematic song was performed encouraging sustainable living and unity against plastic pollution and an eco-pledge to reduce plastic usage and adopt eco-friendly practices. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Mr. Sharan, expressing gratitude to all participants, Joyalukkas management, faculty, students, and members of the public who made the event meaningful.
